|
Music Media: CD 2
Composer: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Artist Country: Austria
Label (Catalogue No.): Deutsche Grammophon (Universal)
Recorded: 1974
Orchester: Wiener Philharmoniker
Genre: Classical
Brief description: The Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466, was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1785. The first performance was at the Mehlgrube Casino in Vienna on February 11, 1785, with the composer as the soloist. A few days after the first performance, the composer's father, Leopold, visiting in Vienna, wrote to his daughter Nannerl about her brother's recent success: I heard an excellent new piano concerto by Wolfgang, on which the copyist was still at work when we got there, and your brother didn't even have time to play through the rondo because he had to oversee the copying operation. It is written in the key of D minor. Other works in that key include the Fantasia K. 397 for piano, Requiem, a Kyrie, and the dark opera Don Giovanni. It is the first of two concertos written in a minor key (No. 24 being the other). The young Ludwig van Beethoven admired this concerto and kept it in his repertoire. Cadenzas for this popular concerto written by famous composers include Beethoven (WoO 58), Johannes Brahms (WoO 16), Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Feruccio Busoni and Clara Schumann.

Music Media: CD
Composer: Konstantin Wecker
Artist Country: Germany
Label (Catalogue No.): Laut & Lui (ALIVE)
Recorded: 2008
Genre: Jazz, Rock, Folk, and Classical Music
Brief description: Konstantin Alexander Wecker (born June 1, 1947, Munich) is one of the best-known German singer-songwriters ("Liedermacher"); he also works as a composer, author, and actor. One of his first works as a songwriter was at Munich's cabaret "Münchner Lach- und Schießgesellschaft" in 1973. His breakthrough as a singer came in 1977 with the LP Genug ist nicht genug ("Enough Is Not Enough"), which includes the popular talking blues "Willy," about a man and presumably close friend of Wecker´s who was slain by drunken Nazis. In the 1980s and again in the 1990s Wecker had problems with drugs, especially cocaine. He worked up these problems in some songs and books. Wecker has released more than forty albums, and has also composed music for film, theater, and children's musicals.
In 2003, Wecker became a public opponent of the U.S-government-led war in Iraq, joining his Liedermacher colleagues Hannes Wader and Reinhard Mey. Domain Artist: www.wecker.de

Title: the GULDA MOZART tapes II 6 sonatas
Artist: Friedrich Gulda
|
Music Media: CD 2
Composer: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Artist Country: Austria
Label (Catalogue No.): Deutsche Grammophon (Universal)
Recorded: 1982
Genre: Classical
Brief description: Although these are studio recordings, the only surviving source material consits of producer´s cassette copies of the original tapes. Given the undoubted quality of the playing, however, this firts-ever commercial release makes a substantial and vital addition to Friedrich Gulda´s discography. The recordings have been faithfully remastered without any artificial attempt to "improve" the sound quality. We believe that any small blemishes that remain are more than compensated for by the unique character of the performances.
For Friedrich Gulda, the cycle of Mozart sonatasrepresented a world unto itself, a world, moreover, with manifold cross-references. This recording - or perhaps we would say "this stocktaking" - from 1982 is the only complete record of Friedrich Gulda´s engagement with his idol Mozart, an involvement that was to last until his death on 27 January 2000 (also Mozart´s birthday in 1756). Title: Vaterland
Artist: Konstantin Wecker
|
Music Media: CD
Composer: Konstantin Wecker
Artist Country: Germany
Label (Catalogue No.): Global
Recorded: 2001
Genre: Jazz, Rock, Folk, and Classical Music
Brief description: It was Wecker's own personal philosophy and as time went on he became better known to the German public for his excesses than his music. In 1993 he wrote the novel Uferlos featuring semi-autobiographical tales. Wecker remains provocative by being an outspoken critic of the German government, religion, and social injustice across the world. He also began writing musicals that were heavily influenced by the cabaret songs of the Weimar Republic and his hero, Bertolt Brecht. In March 2006 Wecker was forced to cancel a scheduled performance in the small town of Halberstadt, Saxony-Anhalt. This came after the extreme-right National Democratic Party (NPD) pressured local authorities and threatened to forcibly disrupt the concert. Wecker has pledged to return to Halberstadt in the summer of 2006. He eventually performed in Halberstadt on 17 June 2006, accompanied by fellow singer-songwriter Hannes Wader and Afghan percussionist Hakim Ludin. In 2007 the Bear Family label celebrated Wecker with two ambitious box sets. The seven-CD Zwischenräume die Studio featured all of his studio work from 1972-1987 while Alle Lust Will Ewigkeit was a ten-CD set featuring live recordings.

Title: Am Flussufer - Live
Artist: Konstantin Wecker
|
Music Media: CD 2
Composer: Konstantin Wecker
Artist Country: Germany
Label (Catalogue No.): Ariola (Sony Music)
Recorded: 2005
Genre: Jazz, Rock, Folk, and Classical Music
Brief description: Konstantin Wecker is a singer/songwriter from Munich, Germany born June 1, 1947. He was a driving force in the Liedermacher movement, which was born during the 1968 student uprisings. Liedermacher is characterized by socially conscious lyrics set to music which is uncategorizable. It can be compared to the "Chanson" of France and Québec, and "Nueva Canción" of Latin America, and has its roots in the cheeky German cabaret songs of the Weimar Republic. The term "liedermacher" literally means "song-maker," and evolved from the term "Stückeschrieber", coined by Bertolt Brecht, and stresses an accessible, workaday quality.
Wecker utilizes elements of rock, folk, and especially jazz and classical, in an extremely complex combination. Known for his percussive piano style and deep, powerful vocals, Wecker's songs typically deal with three major themes: politics, love, and a lust for life. Domain Artist: www.wecker.de

Composer: Konstantin Wecker
Artist Country: Germany
Label (Catalogue No.): Sturm & Kl (ALIVE)
Recorded: 2008
Genre: Jazz, Rock, Folk, Classical Music
Brief description: Combining elements of elements of jazz, rock, folk, and classical music, singer/songwriter Konstantin Wecker has long been at the forefront of Germany's Liedermacher movement, a musically sophisticated movement with lyrics that deal in social issues. Born in Munich in 1947, Wecker was an only child with an opera singer father. Piano lessons began at age six, interests in the humanities and philosophy a bit later. He graduated college in 1970 and released his first album, Die Sadopoetischen Gesänge des Konstantin Amadeus Wecker, in 1972. Critics praised his sophisticated lyrics, and album by album Wecker built his following. In 1977 he had his breakthrough with the album Genug Ist Nicht Genug and the popular title track, which declared, "enough is not enough." It was Wecker's own personal philosophy and as time went on he became better known to the German public for his excesses than his music.
